In terms of all religions you can really only look at Catholicism in which doesn't believe in Birth Control. This factor in itself, elevates population growth due to the amount of babies this would produce uncontrollably.
To be awfully crude though, religion doesn't have much to do with population growth beyond protection. Most of the reasons for population growth follow with that of Agriculture - which needs many children to care for the farm; and that of how well medicine is in one's country - the worse the medicine, the more babies you will have, as more babies elevates the chance of having at least one that will survive to teenage years (Most did not in the 1900's and previous to that time).
