it has its own belt use the belt tentionadjuster located on the alt itself its a bolt
Loosen the alternator and push the alternator down and pull the belt off, put new belt over crank and water pump pulleys and around alternator pulley and pull up on the alternator to where the belt is tight and tighten the alternator bolts down.
About 165hp
None, as the Firebird Formula wasn'toffered in 1986.
HI, I'll take this right from my book which covers from '86-'98. Disconnect the Neg battery cable Label and detach all wiring from the alternator Remove the evap charcoal canister and mounting bracket from the engine compartment Loosen the mounting bolts, then remove the alternator drive belt from the pulley While supporting the alternator, remove the mounting bolts and lift the alternator up and out of the engine compartment To Install: Hold the alternator in position, then install the mounting bolts finger-tight position the alternator belt on the pulley then adjust the drive belt. Using a padded pry bar, push the alternator away from the engine until the belt has the proper tension ( about 1/4 - 1/3 in deflection under thumb pressure) Tighten the alternator mounting bolts to 17ft lbs (23 Nm) if you have a torque wrench, otherwise real tight but not so tight that you'll strip the threads in the alternator Reattach all wiring to the alternator Reinstall the evap charcoal mounting bracket and canister Connect the neg battery cable You'll need to readjust the clock and redo your radio settings
there is no map sensor on it
Depends entirely on what is wrong with it.
there is no serpentine belt on an '86. there is a v-belt and a timing belt. the v-belt is tightened by moving the alternator. the timing belt is tightened by rotating the inner core of the tensioner. the inner core is eccentricly mounted, i.e. if you rotate it, the tensioner moves. there is a serpentine belt alond with two independent belts.
This was hard to do on my 86 2.5L 4 cylinder because in order to put the new alternator belt on... you have to get the other belt off... first what you have to do is loosen up the 2 pivot bolts on the AC compressor from underneath the car.. mine were pretty stubborn but i eventually got em to budge... once you can move the AC, remove the crank/water pump/AC belt. then loosen up the alternator pivot bolt located on the underside of the alternator...(this can be done from either top or bottom) once you can move the alternator.. slip the belt onto the alternator pulley and around the water pump and crank. then tighten the alternator pivot bolts while putting as much possible tension onto the belt and re-tighten alternator into place. then put or replace crank/water pump/AC belt and re-tighten the AC while putting as much possible tension on the belt by pushing the AC forward with a pry bar or screwdriver. good luck
i have seen a 86 with a 454bb 5 speed. not factory
if you have a 350 in a 86 firebird you probably have one sweet care quit quessing and take it and get it dyno tested it doesn't cost much and you can tweek the motor till you get the horsepower or preformance out of it you want
There is none. GM vehicles are not equipped with an inertia switch.
No, it is inside the alternator.
