the ignition coils for the Volkswagens in those years is ontop of each spark plug, They are a known failure part and the dealership has good pricing on them, a video will probably not help with your issues,

They tend to freeze up after 200,000 miles or so. We had our '87's replaced a few years ago at the dealership for approximately $600.
How would you remove an ignition lock to replace it on a 1987 Ford Taurus?
You need the key. Remove the plastic shroud around the ignition. Insert the key, Turn the ignition to the accessory position. Look about 1 and 1/2 inches down the top of the ignition and you will see a square hole. Use something to depress the retainer and pull the ignition out. Put the new ignition in the accessory position and insert where the old one was. If you do not have a key the ignition cylinder will have to be drilled. If you are not sure how to do this. DON'T DO IT!!! Call a locksmith. Also I read in another post similar to this one and in the answer someone wrote, use a puller and pull the ignition. Do not do this. The metal surrounding the ignition cylinder in this car is a very soft pot metal and can be damaged, therefore making matters worse, by not allowing your new ignition to stay in or not go in at all. I've been a locksmith for 17 years and service anything from file cabinets to high security safes and everything in between, so when I say do not attempt unless you know what you are doing, it means presicely that. If the locksmith had the proper code, the key would work ALL of your locks (unless at some point someone changed out the ignition and didnt bother keying it to your existing keys). ((If he did indeed have the proper code # (which btw you should have that # as well, do you?), then he miscut one or more of the tumbler positions relative to operating the ignition, likely to be the first or second cut in your key.)) What it sounds like happened is he made a key for the door assuming it would work the ignition. For many models/year of hyundais and kias this would have worked. However some models/year only use 6 out of 8 tumblers in the door, whereas the ignition needs all 8 tumbler positions cut. If I recall correctly the first 2 positions are not used in the door on some models/years, so you likely have an incomplete key. Regardless of what happened the locksmith should go and finish your key. Hopefully he didn't give you some line like "well that key should work everything, so too bad". The dealership won't be able to provide you with a key (very few dealerships have key cutting capabilities, they normally come to a qualified locksmith). For an 01 they should still have your car on record and can provide you with the correct code # which you can then take to a qualified locksmith. Without knowing a few more details like where did you or the locksmith get the code from it's hard to say EXACTLY what happened. But more than likely he assumed the passenger door lock had a code on it (it doesnt) and also assumed it would work the ignition as well (it doesnt all the time, and kias appear to hop around from year to year in their lock design) I am a locksmith and have to make keys for a 2009 kia spectra today. Our information for the 09 model is limited. I also told the customer (auto dealer lost all their keys somehow) to just bring me the door lock and I can make a fully working key, because our latest information which is only an 06 spectra states the door and ignition use all 8 tumbler positions. Apparently they changed in 07 so that the door doesnt use positions 1&2. So, I will now have to go to the dealership and finish the key on sight and not charge them for the service call because I didnt give them the correct info. Unfortunately our automotive program has not been updated since 07 (06 really) because the developers of AUTOSMART ADVISOR cannot get it to work with vista completely.

You might go to the Dodge dealership and give them you vin# of the vehicle, they might be able to cut you a new key. So hurry. on the passager side door lock cylinder (in door) is the key code also in most cases

Take the Vehicle Identification Number to your local Ford dealer. They can cut a new key for you. Yes and no. The 1998 Ford Expedition uses what is called a Transponder key and must be programmed. In order for the key to be programmed they must have the vehicle to do this. So , you will have to have the vehicle towed to the dealership. If you just need a key that will get you into the vehicle, they can cut it on a regular non-transponder blank, but you will have to provide proof of vehicle ownership. If the information was recorded properly at the assembly factory the key should operate the doors, it will also operate the ignition but the vehicle will not stay running, that's where the transponder key comes in. The most affordable way is, if you have any type of (ERS) emergency roadside service plan, call and they will dispatch a locksmith, depending on the plan you have, all or a portion of the cost to make and program the key may be paid for. They should be able answer that question. If you do not have any ERS than I would start calling your local locksmith's, do not go with the first price you get. Do yourself a favor, call as many locksmith's as you can, prices will be different. I'm a locksmith in Jacksonville, Fl. and I know for a fact I've had people tell me they have got prices as high as $300 and as low as $100 (that's me) to come to the vehicle and do this job, and there may even be someone less than me, you have to call to find out. Sorry this answer is so long but I hate it when people give answer's when they really have no business doing so. If your going to answer a question, do and do it all the way. By the way. A lot of Ford dealerships have stopped cutting keys for vehicle years 1998 and prior. When calling the dealership or a locksmith remember, you are hiring someone to do a job, some of these people will act like they are doing "you" a favor, hang up and call the next dealer or locksmith. So many times I'm asked why the dealer or the locksmith's were rude or wouldn't answer any questions. After 22 years in business I'll never understand how they can be rude to people and still be in business, I guess they are so busy they can pick and choose their customers, if they are rude on the phone, imagine what they will be like when they get to your vehicle. Remember, it's your choice.
