How do you compress rear caliper pistons on Toyota Mr 2?

As far as I know, this applies to all cars regardless of manufacture. If the piston in the caliper is a hollow cup, it pushes in. If it is solid with a flat surface and some sort of design or a groove in the face it turns in to compress.

How do you compress piston caliper to put new rotor on 99 Nissan maxima?

you can use a C clamp and squeeze the cylinder down and then your brake shoes should be far apart enough to just fit on the rotor.

Is there a trick to compressing the caliper piston on a 2008 grand caravan 4 wheel disc brakes on the rear axle?

Make sure the cap is off of the brake master cylinder. You can use a tool designed to move the caliper or a c-clamp. If the piston is too far out it may not go back into the caliper.

How do you compress the brake caliper on a 1995 Ford Taurus?

A C-clamp, open the clamp wide enough to put it over the piston (round metal thing) then close the C-clamp until it is pushed back far enough to allow brake pads to fit properly. Remove the clamp and your golden

What would cause rear brakes to get abnormally hot and smell like burnt rubber after a break change on a 1995 240sx?

Sounds like possibly seized caliper sliders or the piston is not retracted far enough (assuming the car has disc brakes in the rear), if the parking brake actuator is built into the caliper on that model, you may have to rotate the piston back into the bore to release the park brake, if it has a separate park brake, make sure it is adjusted properly and the cables are not seized.

How far do you twist the pistons in on the rear caliper of a Ford Mustang?

Until they won't go in any farther

Why wont the wheel move after replacing brakes?

The reason will more than likely be because when you changed the pads you had to compress the caliper piston in order to put new pads on. you did'NT compress it far enough. did you have a hard time putting thr caliper and pads back over the rotor. If so this is your problem. When you say that the tire doesn't spin, do you mean it feels like someone has their foot on the brake or that it doesn't spin as freely as it did befor you changed the brakes. write back and let me know.

Why is my rear caliper locking up on my 2000 dodge stratus?

calipers can lock up for more than one reason. first reason is dirt and grime in the caliper and pistons.next ,if the brake pads are worn, the pistons can travel to far when brakes applied, leaving room for the pistons to come out of alignment and not be able to retract when brakes are released the brake caliper itself may be faulty. if this needs replacing, it is better to buy a balanced and matched pair and replace both rear at same time so if the problem is not at the caliper, it can be any one of a number of valves or even the master cylinder. generally you would discount the master cylinder unless all brakes were sticking

How to change front brakes on a 05 liberty renegade?

This is taken from the 2003 Jeep Libery Renegade Service manual. Done many break jobs (disc) and most (99.8%) are done this way....Hope this helps.REMOVAL - REAR DISC BRAKE PADS1- Raise and support vehicle.2-Remove the wheel and tire assemblies.3-Compress the caliper. (I used a big vice-grips, just be sure not to damage caliper. They cost a lot.)4-Remove the caliper.5- Remove the caliper by tilting the top up and off the caliper adapter.NOTE: DO NOT ALLOW BRAKE HOSE TO SUPPORT CALIPER ASSEMBLY.6-Support and hang the caliper.7-Remove the inboard brake pad from the caliper adapter.8-Remove the outboard brake pad from the caliper adapter.INSTALLATION1-Bottom pistons in caliper bore with C-clamp. (before removing old pad, I use vice to bottom, i.e. push it in as far as you can into caliper ALWAYS protect the outside of caliper with ...heavy cloth, thin wood,etc,etc..as long as it is not metal to metal to damage it)2- Clean caliper mounting adapter and anti-rattle springs. i.e. make sure there isn't any junk/dust/metal flakes/etc,etc that will cause problems3-Lubricate anti-rattle springs with Mopar brake grease. i.e. Any grease will do.4- Install anti-rattle springs.NOTE: Anti-rattle springs are not interchangeable.5-Install inboard brake pad in adapter.6-Install outboard brake pad in adapter.7-Tilt the top of the caliper over rotor and under adapter. Then push the bottom of the caliper down onto the adapter.8-Install Caliper.9-Install wheel and tire assemblies and lower vehicle.10-Apply brakes several times to seat caliper pistons and brake shoes and obtain firm pedal.11-Top off master cylinder fluid level.Thats it. By myself and no kids-wife-dog around I could do the job in about an hour..including tool cleanup and put away.

How do you depress your brake caliper on a 1996 infiniti i30 if you accidentally pressed the brake pedal and the piston is fully pushed out far enough that a c-clamp won't work?

It twists or screws in.

How do you replace rear brake pads on a 2006 ford e350 ford van?

The rear brakes on most E350 vans are disc brake set-up....they are replaced just as the front pads are....remove the rear wheels....then open the bleeder valve on the rear caliper (one at a time)....then use a large screw driver and insert it through the oblong hole in the top of the caliper....try and grab the front of the rotor with the tip of the screw driver and slowly pry the caliper toward you...this just eliminates the need to use a c-clamp to press the caliper piston back into the caliper....remove the caliper bolts and lift the caliper from the caliper bracket.....replace the old pads and replace the caliper...if the caliper piston is still not pressed in far enough, use a c-clamp to press the piston the rest of the way in...once the piston is pressed all he way in tighten the bleeder valve (opening the bleeder valve eliminates the chance of pushing trash into the ABS proportioning valve and triggering the ABS light)....replace the caliper bolts...replace the wheel...and then move on to the other side....remember when both sides are done to pump up the brakes (otherwise the pedal will travel to the floor and no brakes)....If your van has rear drum brakes it is a bit more difficult but not bad....hope this helps.
