The more you weigh, the more calories you will burn. According to calculations by the American Council on Exercise, a 185-pound person walking at a brisk pace of 3.5 miles per hour will burn 318 calories in one hour, and a 155-pound person walking at 3.5 mph will burn 267 calories in an hour.

The faster you walk, the more calories you will burn, so pick up the pace to lose 10 pounds in a shorter amount of time.

What seems commonly accepted is 100 calories per mile (1.6KM), so 7.4 miles or 11.84KM. less if you're big since you have to carry more, also less if you walk faster. I suppose a lot more if you're fit and thin as you get more efficient at exercises and it takes a lot more work to get your heart rate up.

  • 130 to 140 pounds - 3.5 calories burned per minute
  • 145 to 155 pounds - 4.0 calories burned per minute
  • 160 to 170 pounds - 4.5 calories burned per minute
  • 175 to185 pounds - 5.0 calories burned per minute
  • 190 to 200 pounds - 5.5 calories burned per minute

So, say you are 145 lbs you need about 14.58 hours of walking
