to replace the fuel pump on a 1988 Ford Ranger, you have to get a few of your buddys together and pull the 6 torques bolts out of the bed and dissconect all the wiring to the tailights from the frame, and the filler neck to your fuel tank, next you lift the bed off of the truck carefuly, once you have the bed removed you can then unplug the wiring from the fuel pump, and dissconnect the fuel lines(2) from the fuel pump, there is a ring that has to turn to unlock the fuel pump, once the ring is removed, you can then pull the fuel pump out carefully, making sure not to drop anything into your fuel tank, install the new or remanufactured fuel pump the same way as the old one was installed, and replce the ring, then pulg the wiring in and connect the fuel lines, once this has been done, you may place the bed carefully back into place and reconnect the fuller neck and the wiring, then re alighn your bed and bolt it back down, replace all wiring and tailights and things and you aer good to roll, i recommend a new fuel filter and some injector cleaner while you are working in the fuel system
where is fuel filter located on a 1992 ford ranger
The external fuel pump of an 1988 ford ranger 4*4 xlt is located inside the fuel tank or gas tank.
Either change fuel filter or fuel pump...
on my 1988 ford ranger (2.3L, 5sp), the fuel filter is behind the driver's front wheel on the inner side of the frame. it's kind of easy to find by following the fuel lines from the tank.
The fuel filter should be an inline type. There is a clip on ache end. Pull the clips off and the filter can be removed. Be careful that fuel does not spray on you, as the fuel is under pressure.
