The Spanish came to America because the people set out to find a new place to live for the freedom of religion. Early Americans lived very traditional lives centered around Christian belief. The people had good intentions but were extremist. They would carry out acts of violence towards the Indians who did not have the same beliefs. In early American society there was no tolerance for other religions.
