A topic is the idea or concept being communicated through speech or writing. A topic can be general or specific. For example, 'sports' would be considered a very general topic, while 'Baseball' would be a more specific topic since it is referring to a particular sport, and 'Chicago Cubs' would be an even more specific topic since it is referring to a particular baseball team. 'Ryne Sandberg' would be the most specific topic since it is referring to an individual baseball player who played for the Chicago Cubs.
