How is hunting bad?

Hunting is not bad. It keeps the animal numbers at a level the habitat can support. Without hunting, deer and other animals would become endangered because there would not be enough food to go around.

The protection of the herd, the habitat, and its management determines when hunting is allowed. Hopefully the meat garnered from a hunt is used and not discarded.

Deer hunting isn't bad. Most people think it is because animals die. Well, consider this, when you take a step, you kill 2,000,000,000 living things. Also, the typical deer, when shot, takes under a minute to die. Cows, when slaughtered, take eight minutes, fourteen seconds on average. Now, when most people think of hunters, they think of guys sitting in a tree shooting at anything that moves. That isn't hunting. Hunting is slowly tracking an animal, carefully taking aim, and killing it with as little pain as possible. After killing the animal, real hunters use all of it, whereas commercial companies throw out more than half of it.

You're running across the forest as quick as possible and all of a sudden you hear "BOOM!" You have an excruciatingly terrible stinging pain in your back and you're covered in blood. The last thing you hear is human footsteps in the distance coming towards you and you black out. This is how, much more than a necessary amount o f deer in Canada alone die because of hunting. This, for many people, this is a good enough reason for hunting to be made illegal. But other than the terrible fate of many animals, hunting should still be stopped.

Some hunters abuse the privilege to hunt animals when they do not hunt in the correct season; these hunters are called "poachers". They don't grasp the fact that it is most likely mating season for those animals. If the animals do not breed then chances are that they will become endangered or even possibly, extinct. Poachers are also hunters who just don't follow hunting regulations, such as, people who hunt but do not possess a license to use their weapon, or illegally selling the animal or animal parts for a profit. When hunting regulations in general, are not followed, it does not only endanger animals but human lives as well.

Both humans and deer die in car crashes when they both are involved. A deer would be deep in the forest, minding their own business until hunters start firing their guns at them. The first thing a majority of people would do is, run of their lives. That is when the deer would step onto road to realize a car just swerved into a ditch right beside them or slapped into them. Either way, both the human(s) in the car, and the deer were severely injured or even dead. There are at least 1.3 million car crashes involving deer that is caused hunting each year. That means over 1 million people and deer could have died just because of hunting and those numbers are still increasing dramatically. Hunting accidents occur more frequently as well, which also decreases the human population by at least 800 a year.

No, deer mate in October, November and December. When a doe comes in heat, bucks go wild. The only thing on his mind is sex. This is what causes deer to run wild through the streets. Hunters may not be the best way to manage a herd, but it is the only way that pays for itself(through hunting license). Any other way that could benefit deer would require a huge increase in taxes. Anti-hunters always complain about us, but never offer legitimate alternatives.

This guy doesn't know what he is talking about. Hunters do not scare deer out of the wood onto roads. Deer naturally roam seeking food, water and other deer. Hunters decrease accidents with deer because they keep the population in check. At my gun club there are occasions where we have had to stop shooting trap because deer have wandered onto the field, even as as shotguns are being fired. Human expansion is to blame for accidents, not hunting.

It's hard to have any control and regulations on it, so species are very easily wiped out. In fact they are SCARILY easy to destroy. There's also the little fact of taking away the right to live. Not many people care about things like that these days though.

The first answer has a valid point. In countries where poaching thrives it is easy to threaten the existence of a species. Anyone posting a comment here is urged to use restraint, as the answerer may not know anything about hunting. So be nice!

The first answer here is clearly false. Over hunting is bad. Harvesting animals for meat, fur or trophy in a regulated country has never led to the extinction of a species.

There no negative effects if the hunting is done in a responsible manner and legally. Culling is good for the herd. Hunting is good for the local economy. And it's good for the hunters - it's a healthy way to get outdoors and enjoy some clean air and sunshine.

Well, it is- and it isn't. A species of animal CAN be hunted to extinction- like the Passenger Pigeon. However, hunting is used as a tool to manage wildlife populations, to maintain the best level of wildlife for an area. In many parts of the US, when deer populations grow too large, animals will starve (too many deer, not enough food) or there will be disease outbreaks, such as Chronic Wasting Disease. Hunting can help keep populations at an ideal level. In my home state of Virginia, there are now more deer and wild turkey than there were 400 years ago. The fees paid by hunters also fund most of the costs in wildlife management, including management of non-game animals. Without hunters, no programs, and fewer animals
