Usually with electronically controlled valves or any other device that has movement limits, there will be either a slotted ribbon, or 2 sensors and a stepper motor where the device can auto calibrate by moving until both sensors are hit, then it can calibrate it's self and move to a predetermined home position.

The same is with a ribbon, (a good example of that design is a printer where you will see it spin the feed wheels and move the heads from side to side on startup to calibrate it's self)

Usually electronically controlled valves do not need any user adjustment for calibration. (at least with heating and cooling systems)

What is the definition of pneumatic valve?

A valve which requires pressurised air to operate (open or close) is known as pneumatic valve. A valve has a valve base through which the media (could be be air, liquid, steam, gas...) flows and a actuator mounted on the base which helps operate the valve. This actuator could be of pneumatic type. (or elctrically operated motorised type)

Why reciprocating pumps are not coupled with motor?

In case of emergency, if the cylinder stops, the motor does not. So it can be harmful for motor. Designers couple the high power motor to the cylinder of pump by means of a clutch. so the motor can continue to rotate while the cylinder stops. Also in case of closing the outlet valve of a pump, the pressure in the cylinder can fail the cylinder or crankshaft and accessories. in this case the clutch can separate the power from motor to the pump and prevent failure of pump.

How is work quench valve in reefer?

A refrigeration circuit is provided with a quench line connecting the liquid line and the suction line and containing a QEV. The QEV is controlled responsive to the superheat of the refrigerant supplied to the compressor. By injecting liquid refrigerant downstream of the suction modulation valve and the sensor for the TXV, the system can be operated at low capacity without overheating the compressor oil.

What are the advantages of motor operated valves over pneumatic valves?

Good question Usually motor operated valve used in big pipe lines sizes which it is need strong torque and for ON/OFF condition not to control the process, We can use rather than M.O.V pneumatic ON/OFF valve with piston actuator (Double Acting) but in this case the accessories it will cost you more because you need to provide pneumatic amplifier and big actuator depend on the pipe size. That is why better to use M.O.V the motor will rotate the gears and the gears will rotate the valve with low cost. Contact me for more clarification if there is.
