Retro virus has reverse transcription in its replication cycle. In other words, rna is template for synthesis of dna. With dna virus, there is no reverse transcription in the replication cycle. Dna is the template for dna synthesis.

What is the difference between a common animal virus and a retrovirus?

The difference between a common animal virus and a retrovirus is that a retrovirus only contains RNA while a common animal virus will have DNA or RNA.

How does a retrovirus differ from other viruses?

A retrovirus transcribes RNA into DNA, whereas a regular virus transcribes DNA into RNA. (:

Viruses that contain RNA as their genetic information are called?

A retrovirus contains RNA as its genetic information. When a retrovirus infects a cell, it uses its own enzymes to produce DNA from its RNA. Then the DNA becomes part of the host cell's genome, and it will be transcribed and translated along with the host cell's DNA, thereby turning the cell into a virus factory. It is called a retrovirus because the original order of DNA ---> RNA ---> protein is reversed to RNA ---> DNA ---> RNA ---> protein.

A virus that stores its genetic information as RNA is called?

It is called a Retrovirus HIV is an example of a Retrovirus

Is the common cold and HIV from the same virus?

No the cold virus is rhinovirus, where as HIV&AIDS is a retrovirus it reproduces by changing DNA into RNA.

Which virus is transcribed from RNA to DNA to RNA during the replication cycle?

The general class of these viruses is retrovirus.

Which enzyme are retroviruses equiped with that allows them to transcribe DNA from an RNA template?

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a retrovirus. A retrovirus is a RNA virus that replicates through a DNA intermediate. HIV synthesises DNA from RNA by the action of reverse transcriptase enzyme.

The aids virus a retrovirus uses what to read RNA and synthesize the corresponding DNA?

An enzyme called Reverse transcriptase.

What is a retrovirus?

A retrovirus is actually a virus that encode the DNA anddestroys the DNA and replace it with RNA. As I heard on TV they presume that life on planet (when it started out was actually beginning of earth) when the monkey have the retrovirus they made the thing call humans and about 99% of the a regular human. Without this retrovirus you won't be living, breathing, mammals. I hope u got some of the info! =)

Is measles a retrovirus?

No. Though measles contains an RNA genome like retroviruses, it does not have the distinctive enzyme reverse transcriptase, and therefore does not change its genome to DNA before transcription.

Why is the HIV virus called a retrovirus?

HIV is considered a retrovirus because has enzyme reverse transcriptase.HIV has RNA as genetic material.Using reverse transcriptase HIV synthesizes Double strand DNA inside the host cell using host's materials.

Is chickenpox caused by microorganisms?

Chickenpox is caused by a virus. Viruses, strictly speaking, are not cellular and are not alive, but some people call them microorganisms nevertheless.
