Turn Key to position 1, hold in trip odometer reset while turning key to position 2. Hold down until service reminder starts flashing, then release odometer reset.
The dealer told me it can only be reset by them through a computer. They wanted $40 just to deactivate it for another 4,500 miles. That's a scam if you ask me. Doesn't bother me but it looks suspicious when you go to sell the car.

Ignition on to 2nd stage Bring up service reminder with dash button (press the button twice) Turn the ignition off (do not remove key) Bring up service reminder with dash button and hold down for up to 10sec. While pressing down the button, turn the ignition key back to 2nd stage. If it doesn't clear with the first try, try again (i had to do it a couple of times to get it right.)

You didn't say what year or model BMW. The service intervals vary a huge amount between models a years. BMW built since the mid-1980s have a service indicator. You should change the oil when the service indicator tells you to. On BMWs that specify synthetic oil, you should change the oil when the indicator counts down to zero or once a year whichever comes first.
