The plant's epidermis consists of three main cell types, pavement cells, guard cells, and trichomes. Pavement cells protect the plant body from the dry atmosphere and UV-rays. Guard cells are used for gas exchange in and out of a plant. Trichomes help increase the rate of water absorption and reduce the rate of water loss due to evaporation in order to keep the leaf surface cool. Trichomes also provide a defense against insects since the "hairiness" of the leaf impedes insect infestation. Also Glandular or secretory hairs provide a chemical defense against potential herbivores.

The vascular tissue also called the root's transport system is made up of xylem cells that transport water.

What is the three dimensional Structure of Keratin?

Keratin is a protein, so it has both a primary and secondary structure. In fact, all proteins have a primary and secondary structure, along with a tertiary and quaternary structure. There are many different ways proteins can be structured and shaped, so biochemists divide proteins into 4 separate parts or structures.

Can the electron transport chain be found in animals or plants?

In the process of making ATP, all air-breathing animals have cells that go through the process of the Electron Transport Chain.

How can you justify the disappearance of oxygen as a measure of electron transport?

In the electron transport chain Oxygen is the final electron acceptor. Also the Oxygen accepts 2 Hydrogen ions, making water in the process. The dissapearance of Oxygen shows that the electron transport chain is working and that Oxygen is doing its job.

Why is graphite a good lubricant and diamond is an excellent abrasive?

Because graphite forms layers and each layer, each carbon molecule is bonded to three other carbon molecules. The fourth electron to each atom is weakly bonded to the layer next to it. The structure allows the layers to slide past each other, making this element an excellent lubricant.
