I'm wondering the same think as I had been looking all over the internet for this answer. I just took mebendazole 2.5 days ago, and at the 48 hour mark, I was still itching, though much, much less frequently. I haven't felt any itching for a few hours, when before meds it was every few minutes. Maybe, the first round of egg layers are gone, or almost gone? BUT, the eggs that they just laid in these 2 days, will then, become worms again, and it will take them a few weeks to mature to the point that THEY will lay more eggs. So, you need to do a second round by the 2 week mark before they mature, or you will have the itchies back, to start all over another med routine. And, everyone in your household, or that you sleep with needs to be on the meds at the same time. The drugs do NOT kill the eggs - and, the eggs stay around for a few days, everywhere. In fact, I thoroughly cleaned my rear with a wash cloth, then an hour later, put scotch tape to it, stuck it to another piece of scotch tape. and, then took it to my library and put it under the microscope, and saw all kinds of stuff, including the pinworm, and the pinworm eggs. I took pics with my cell phone, and took it to my doc. What I'm trying to say is that they stick to everywhere, even though you can't see them, and even when you are very thorough at cleaning. It's a very difficult thing to irradiate. So, I put on gloves when I go to the bathroom, and change my clothes 2x/day at least, and don't use towels more than a day, and wash my sheets frequently. You must change clothes and undies daily, at least. There are other things you can do to supplement the med, that may or may not help. I'm taking odorless garlic pills, and wormwood (not necessarily safe), and walnut hull tinctures. I tried the garlic on my butt to kill the eggs, but it burnt so bad, I couldn't bear it.

How do you get rid of worms without seeing a doctor?

How you get rid of worms depends greatly upon what kind of worms you think you or your pet may have. Pinworms are found only in humans and account for the largest percentage of intestinal worm infections in the U.S. Getting rid of pinworm isn't easy, but it can be done. To get rid of pinworms, you should wash your hands regularly to avoid ingesting pinworm eggs. If pinworm infection is detected by your doctor, or noticed in the stool, you should seek an over-the-counter treatment like Reese's Pinworm Medicine or get a prescription from your doctor for Vermox, the most common prescription given for pinworm infections.
