Brown blood is simply darker, less oxygentaed red bllod. It indicates venous blood. The veins carry blood that is circulating back to the lungs and heart to be refreshed (ie: oxygentaed) to then travel out of the heart through the arteries. Arterial blood is red. A bright red color indicates that an artery has been cut, not a vein, and is much harder to stop bleeding. It is very important to stop bleeding by raising the cut area higher than the level of the heart, and apply pressure. See an emergency physician or call 911 if the cut bleeds greatly without signs of stopping.
