It started on September 1, 1939 and lasted until the last Polish army surrendered on October 6, 1939. So the campaign lasted a little over a month. However, contrary to popular belief, the Polish military actually fought surprisingly well during the campaign, and inflicted fairly significant losses on the German (and Soviet) forces arrayed against them.

The invasion began on September 1, 1939, one week after the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, and ended October 6, 1939, with Germany and the Soviet Union occupying the entirety of Poland. Having stated that, Poland, for all practical purposes was defeated by September 17, 1939. Mop-up operations and the Soviet move into the eastern half of Poland began on that date. Warsaw was under siege and held out a few weeks. Poland had easily, as had been expected defeated quickly.

How does Hitler convince the German people to go to war with Poland?

Hitler, as a dictator, had no need to convince Germans of the need to go to war with Poland. The German people were not outwardly in favor of war with Poland, although Hitler created the diplomatic crisis that lead to the German invasion. Hitler also ordered a fake Polish attack on the German radio station at Gleiwitz on the night of August 31st. It was designed to make Germans believe that Poland started the war. However, few Germans heard of the Gleiwitz incident before the German invasion. Bottom-line, Hitler ordered the attack on Poland long before most Germans were aware of any pending crisis, and further Germans were not urging the invasion beforehand.
