Chicken should be on grill 45 minutes to an hour. temp should be 230-250. if using charcoal, make sure that there is no flames as this will burn the chicken. let the coal turn gray about 1/2 through the coal before putting chicken on grill. check doneness by slicing into thickest part of chicken, juices should run clear. let the chicken sit for short while after removing from grill to set the juices inside, chicken will be much more moist.
The amount of time to grill chicken is dependent on how thick the chicken is, as well as what tempeture you are cooking on. You should cook chicken until it reaches an internal tempeture of approx 165F

How long you grill your chicken is not as important as what temperature you cook it to. Chicken is one of the few meats that should not be eaten if it's not completely cooked through.

Chicken is normally done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees. Because chicken is also one of the meats that cooks have trouble getting proper temperatures for it's also good to make sure the juices are are clear with no sign of red in them.

If you grill it to 165 degrees internal and then allow to rest for 5 or six minutes you should have to problem.

What is a good barbecue chicken recipe?

Start by marinating your chicken in barbecue sauce overnight. You want it to marinate for a long, consecutive period of time so that it absorbs lots of flavor. When it's time to cook the chicken, you can either cook the chicken on the stove or on a grill. Personally, I prefer a grill because it gives the chicken a smokier flavor. Regardless of the way you cook your chicken, make sure your brush barbecue sauce on the meat before cooking, when the chicken is halfway done, and before serving. Enjoy!
