take the air filter housing off on left side the ignition coils
take off the distributor cap see what you find.
follow your spark plug wires under the motor to the ignition module where the coils are mounted and the wires are attached to them. use a wrench and a screw driver to take off the module and the coils. do not lose the plug firing order.
The 'spluttering' is not caused by water in the engine but by water on the wires or coils or in the distributor. If you're not talking about a volkswagen, let it idle for about 10 minutes and then let it sit for a few hours (hood closed.) If this is a Volkswagen replace any ignition coils and wires the vehicle uses. Drying will not help. The damage is permanent.
first remove the engine cover. then remove the air intake collector, and the upper intake manifold and then the ignition coils. take out spark plugs and replace. this is better left to a pro.
you take off the ignition coils on top of the valve cover there are 4 bolts you have to take off then pop off the ignition coil
take the steering wheel off and take the ignition lead off and then you buy a new ignition with new key or vis versa
take off cover on top of valve cover - coils sit on top of each spark plug (eight coils). Might as well replace spark plugs since your in there. Passenger side is easy, drivers a bit tighter.
How long does it take to replace my broken dentures?
The spark plugs are underneath that cover on top of the engine (on mine the cover says VVTi). Just take that cover off, and then you will see the four ignition coils. Take off the four ignition coils (with igniters), and you will see the four relatively long holes underneath, and the spark plugs are at the bottom of those holes. You will need a good spark plug socket (preferably a thin wall socket) and a 6" or 12" extension.
if you have ignition coils you have to remove them and the intake tube (3000) then you can take the spark plugs out
take one off at a time, and replace with a new one. then so on.
