Almost all organized societies have had institutionalized slavery at some point in their history. Europeans held other europeans as slaves long before ancient Greek civilization. It was the norm in every area of Europe. Slavery was found throughour Africa since ancient times, and there are still African slaves owned by other Africans today. Slavery was institutionalized in most parts of Asia until fairly recently. Slavery existed in pre-Colombian North and South America. It was universal, and still exists in a few places now. It is a grave and sometimes self-serving myth to portray slavery as a particularly European phenomenon. For the record, I am not descended from europeans, but my ancestors were both slaves and slave owners. This is true of the vast majority of the human race.
forever, no seriously, there has been slaves, and women have been below men for about as long as humans have been around.
The blues have been around since the slaves in the 1800's
In World War 1, The United States did not get involved at first because none of the issues concerned the United States. Besides, The United States had a long history of not getting involved in wars that did not specifically involve the United States. European nations had been fighting for centuries. Let them continue to fight. Also, each European Nation had a specific reason for fighting. The United States had no reason to get involved.

Before the widespread use of enslaved labor, both Native Americans and indentured servants were involved in the cultivation of cotton and tobacco. Native American tribes had been growing and harvesting tobacco long before European colonization. Additionally, European indentured servants, who signed contracts to work for a set number of years in exchange for passage to America, also participated in these labor-intensive crops during the early colonial period.
The Dutch did participate in the transatlantic slave trade and slavery. They were one of several European nations involved in the transportation and exploitation of African slaves during the colonial period.
Slavery has existed as long as humans have been alive.
Switzerland is known for it's political neutrality.
They likely only had one meager meal a day, and it would have been at the end of the long work day, before they went to sleep.
Slaves have been bought and sold for thousands of years. Today there are still slaves. They are taken in war, for purposes of tribal or ethnic cleansing and sold into the sex trade.
Slavery has occurred for a long time throughout history, and all sorts of groups have been enslaved. The majority of slaves don't necessarily originate from any single location. But the term slave did come from Vikings capturing and selling of Slavic peoples back around the 500's, (notice that slavery did occur prior to that). Since that time, slavery has occurred all over the globe within all sorts of cultures, so a geographical location from which slaves most come from doesn't exist. If you want to be fancy about it... most slaves come from "oppression".
Argentina has long been a place of exiles from Europe.
