Disconnect motor mounts from block, drain pan, lift by balancer a few inches to clear pan. Front & rear crank seals are tricky. This is not a job for inexperienced.
If I did it would be because there is a flaw in the gasket that seals the trunk lid. To find it take a flashlight and have an assistant with keys close you in the trunk. Have your assistant run water from a hose over the trunk lid while you look at the seal from inside. You will find your leak.
Subaru camshaft sealsSubaru cam seals are located back behind the sprockets and back timing covers.Knowledge of installing timing belts will also be needed for this procedure.Things to check for before replacing seals are the PVC system to make sure that there is not crankcase pressure developing causing the leakage.Additionally if the seals are only leaking in cool weather then the leak can often be greatly recuced with seal conditioner designed to slow rear main seal leakage
2.2L SOHC or 2.5L DOHC engine? I highly recommend the Haynes auto repair Manual (should be able to get it online or at any parts store) for your car, it led me through a timing belt swap for mine (96' 2.5L DOHC legacy outback) no problem. book is like $20, mine has saved me hundreds. If its the 2.5 DOHC, replace the water pump while you're in there. they say to replace the cam seals and the belt tensioner too, but I didnt, seals and tensioner were still in good shape. mechanic will charge you $1000-1200 for it, I got parts for about $90 and did it in about 3 hours. breaking loose the crankshaft pulley bolt is the hardest part, don't use a chain wrench like the haynes guide says (will chew up the pulley), instead, put a long breaker bar on it, put the handle down on the drivers side unibody rail and bump it with the starter.
Replace the whole rack, it would take speical tools to replace seals
Replace seals
Transmission seals? front yes, rear no. Engine seals, yes.
It can cost upwards of 200.00 dollars to replace the transmission seals in a 96 Honda Accord as of 2014. The exact price depends on the seals you purchase.
Rear wheel bearings need to be replaced often. In areas with road salt, the rear drive shafts often need to be replaced with the wheel bearing, because of excess corrosion around the bearing seals. Rust at the back of the rear wheel arches is common after 10 years. Oil leaks from the camshaft seals on the engine after 150,000 miles. Not expensive to fix.
YOU DON'T!!! I have a 2003 avalanche and I had to replace the water pump you can't replace the seals!!! It's a defect in the 2001 to 2003 avalanche the seals fail.
Rebuild. While the thing is taken apart it might as well be best to replace all seals.
