The Eastern Front varied in length throughout the First World War, stretching roughly from the Baltic to the Black Sea. It was approximately 900 miles long, twice as long as the Western Front. The thin spread of troops from both sides along the line made trench warfare pointless, as not enough defenders could reach an area to give the overwhelming advantage defenders had in the fields of France. Therefore the 'Front' itself was much more fluid, so a specific length is harder to determine. 900 miles is at best an average.
