the original beetle... a few prototypes were around in '38, there are still a couple of '39s about, but then they pretty much cancelled them for ww2. they still made beetle derived vehicles though (kommandeurwagen, 181, schwimmwagen etc), so i guess you could say they were'nt completly abandoned. started up making civvy vehicles again in '45, and carried on up until 2003, although german production stopped in '79.
