After she starts laying, she will produce an egg or two a day up to 10-18 eggs. These eggs will be left uncovered until she is ready to "sit" When she has laid the eggs she will start sitting on them all day long for 28 days (most breeds). She will get off the nest for up to 1/2 hour each day after she has started sitting, so she can eat, drink and bathe. Her being wet when she comes back to the nest is important in the process of her maintaining the proper humidity of the eggs.

No, it is rare for a bird to leave the nest before the eggs have hatched. Bird eggs require the body heat of their parent(s) in order to incubate and allow their young to grow within. In fact I don't think there are any birds that will leave their eggs before they have hatched. Even after hatching the parent(s) will look after their young until they are strong enough to fend for themselves.

Until they hatch? Well, that really depends. The duck sits on her eggs for 28-30 days until they hatch. The father duck is not around. When they hatch, she will lead them to a nearby body of water. Muscovy eggs take 35 days to hatch.

How long can a duck egg survive after its mother has abandoned it?

Duck eggs can survive for hours without the mother. Sometimes, mother ducks will leave the nest to find food, then come back to lay another egg and incubate the nest. As long as she regularly warms the eggs, she doesn't have to stay with them all the time.

A mother duck laid her egg and then just walked away from the egg is there anything you can do to help the egg?

The egg will be fine, the mother duck will come back and lay more eggs. Leave the egg alone and check it every day for a few days to see if there are more eggs. If there are more eggs, the mother duck plans on sitting on them before too long. How long does it take moscovy duck eggs to hatch?

Most ducks incubate and hatch their eggs in about 28 days. If your duck has been sitting on her eggs for 5 or more weeks, the eggs are likely infertile. If this is the case, you should remove the infertile eggs so the mother duck can get back to feeding and exercizing.

How long before wild baby turkeys leave the nest?

Ducks usually leave the nest just after all the eggs have hatched because the mother bird does not feed the chicks, they have to find food for themselves and to do this best they need to be on water. Thus the mother duck will take them out of the nest and to water immediately.
