Less than 400,000 were brought to the US and almost 5,000,000 to South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean islands.

The African slave trade was actually started as early as 869 when Muslim traders sold items to the Africans and the African kings actually traded with their own people! But what most people think about the African slave trade and the southern states in the United States comes much later. The Dutch were the first people to transport slaves to North America, but black slaves have already been sold around the world. Contrary to people's belief, the Dutch did not really have to use force to get the slaves, instead all they had to do was contact the king of the tribe and just as the Muslim traders had done, just pay the king and he would give you his people. These are numbers that I have found that show an estimate on how many slaves were sold to these major countries. Portugal/Brazil: 4,650,000 Spain: 1,600,000 France: 1,250,000 Holland: 500,000 Britain: 2,600,000 U.S.A.: 300,000 Denmark: 50,000 Others: 50,000 Total: 11,000,000
It is uncertain of the exact number, but it is estimated that there were 600,000 slaves brought from Africa. This made up about five percent of the total number of slaves.
About 10 million.
The immigrants in question were the African slaves. They were an exception because they were brought here forcibly as a part of the African slave trade which had been ongoing to a lesser degree within Africa and Europe for quite some time. Some estimate the total number of slaves that were taken from Africa to "The New World" (as far as South America to the South and as far north as Alaska) to be as high as 12 million. It is estimated that up to 1/4 of those did not survive the journey.

Slaves represented a sizeable percentage of the population of the antebellum south. In the lower south, slaves represented 47% of the population. The total percentile in the upper south was 29%. The border states had a population of 13% of slaves against the total population.
Lord John Rolle's slave likely came from West Africa, as this was a common source region for slaves during the transatlantic slave trade. Africans were captured and sold into slavery, with many ending up in the British colonies in the Americas, including the Caribbean and North America. Lord John Rolle would have acquired his slave through the slave trade or inheritance.
a third
Southern states in the United States wanted slaves to count towards their total population in order to gain more representation in Congress and more electoral votes. This was known as the Three-Fifths Compromise, where every five enslaved persons would count as three individuals in determining representation.
