About 20% of the population or roughly 600,000 Americans were Loyalists. The majority of which remained and became loyal and patriotic Americans. Some chose to become Canadians, a few moved to British islands in the Caribbean and a very small number elected to go home to the United Kingdom at the end of the American Revolution.
