This is really a hard question, but I can answer this.

There were more than 200 Australians troops who survived but had some body parts missing. That's all I can say.

Australian forces fought in all theaters of WWII. The fact that the Pacific was their home turf simply made it more convenient to retain their units in that theater. == In the early stages of the War many Australian units fought in North Africa, but after the fall of Singapore to the Japanese in February 1942, the Australian government brought most of these troops home and cooperated closely with the US.

Should the australians have been involved in the Vietnamese war?

The Australian Government at the time remembered during world war 2 how Britain had left Australia to defend its self against the Japanese and how home guard Australian troops fought in New Guinea until hardened and experienced troops from the middle east campaign could be transported back to defend Australia. This went against England's wishes to keep the troops in the middle east. The Americans had been assisting in the defence of Australia in both major sea and land battles. The Australian Government knew they had to keep America as their allies and therefore supported Americans in their future wars, even if the Majority of Australian's were against the war.

Why is World War 2 important in Australian history?

Where to begin? * Australia was bombed by Japan * The States of Queensland, West Australia, New South Wales and the Northern Territory were all attacked in some form. * Japanese Submarines began shelling Sydney Harbour * Prime Minister Churchill of England refused to allow Australian troops to go home to defend the nation from Japan, leaving Australia very much at risk of occupation. * Australian ties to Britain were ended by Australian Prime Minister Curtain who said the future is now with the United States, and called on the US to come defend the Australian continent. The Americans came and saved Australia (among other things...)
