Officially, only about 50. However, many people of Jewish background serve without declaring their Judaism: mainly because they're not particularly observant and don't want to receive pastoral visits from rabbis who might ask awkward questions about dietary habits, sabbath observance, shul attendance etc! Most of these will probably declare themselves "C of E" ("Anglican") for official purposes, and no-one asks too many questions, nor in truth cares!
Over 40 years ago one famous cavalry regiment contained so many Jewish members (including over half the officers) it was known as "The Hebrew Cavalry"!
Pte Jason Burt, 3 Para, was killed in action during the battle for Mt Longdon, Falklands War, June 1982. He was only 17 when he died.
Lt Paul Mervis, 2 Rifles, was killed in action leading his platoon in Afghanistan, 12th June, 2009, aged 27. At the time of his death Paul Mervis was the 35th "declared" Jewish member of the British Army, but as explained above, there are many more who do not declare their Jewishness.
Both are buried in the Aldershot Military Cemetery. RIP.
Lt Col Peter "Pug" Davis, RM, DSC (RIP, 2011), was one of the founders of what is now the Special Boat Service: he served with great distinction during WW2 leading special operations, and later founded and commanded the "Small Raids Wing".
He again served with great distinction in the Special Boat Sections during the Borneo "Confrontation" with Indonesia during the early 1960s, leading strategic reconnaissance and raiding operations.
Famously, whilst on exchange with the US Navy UDTs, he caused a great furore on a freefall parachute jump by ignoring instructions to open his chute at 3000 feet, only deploying his canopy when under 1000 feet. As he explained to his concerned and angry hosts, "My dear fellow, Royal Marines don't usually open their chutes above a thousand feet!".
By all accounts he was quite a character! In later life, "Pug" was President of the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen, and a leading light of the Jewish Community in Bournemouth where he and his wife lived in retirement.
The French military knew perfectly well that French Jews had served patriotically in World War 1. Note. Some of the very earliest Nazi decrees against the Jews also exempted veterans of World War 1, in order to placate Hindenburg.
The Jews were freed from the Russians,British, and Americans. They freed them in different areas.
Approximately 500,000 Jews served in the US Army and around 11,000 were killed in action.
Yes, I think so.
Relations were difficult and often tense.
where the jews forest to serve in to russin military in 20century
No. The Jews were saved and liberated from the concentration camps after the British, the Americans and the USSR defeated the Nazis and their allies.
Board of Deputies of British Jews was created in 1760.
Japan lost most of its military power, the Germans were defeated, and the Jews were freed.
Ending segregation in military Ending restrictive covenants against blacks and Jews
I don't think there is a count for WWI. Remember, WWI was not fought because of persectution of Jews but on the invasion of Belgium.
during the world war2 Britain needed help defeating the Nazis so they turned to the Jews in Europe promising them with an independent land of their own in case they agreed to fight for them and they did. Since palestine was allready occupied by Britain and Jerusalem is where Jews used to live 2000 years ago Britain decided to end its occupation there leaving it to the Jews to be the new occupiers however the british occupation was only military unlike the Jews where they turned it into a homeland so that's where the U.N. resolution of deviding palestine came from
