As of 2009, the maximum number of seats in the House of Representatives is 435 and the maximum number of seats in the Senate is 100.

Keep in mind however, that there may be vacant seats in the House or in the Senate. For example, when Senator Edward Kennedy passed away, the State of Massachusetts had a vacant Senate seat, temporarily bringing the total number of seated Senators to 99.
