A turtles shell is built into bone structure. Parts of the backbone and the ribs, among other bones, make up the inner structure of the shell. This means that it cannot get out of its shell, as the shell is not separate from the body.
the answer is between 59-61 depending on the species, the correct answer is 60 bones under the shell.
yes turtles do have a bottom shell
Turtle shells are a part of a turtle's body! A shell is basically made of bones (60 meshed together) and their spine is actually embedded into its shell. Contrary to what they show in cartoons, turtles can't take of their shell any more than you can take off your skin.

do you mean the shell? It is DEFINITELY not ok for turtles to have a weak shell. softshell syndrome is a major killer of young turtles, especially aquatics. Its real name is Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) and it is caused by poor diet and/or insufficient lighting. In order to stay alive, turtles require a certain amount of calcium in the bloodstream. If they do not get enough, calcium is taken from the bones to maintain the right ratio in the bloodstream. Over time, the bones are weakened. If the shell feels soft, it means that the bony structure which holds the keratin shields (outer shell) rigidly in place is so badly compromised that you can feel the damage from the outside. In other words, the turtle's bones have softened, making the protein layer (shell) seem soft.
Spiders do not have bones. They have exoskeletons which is a hard outer shell.
There are over 200 species of turtle, each of which have various numbers of bones in their anatomy. However on average the shell of a turtle is made up of 59 to 61 bones. For more information on Turtles and their bones, see the "Related Links" section of this answer.
Turtles are "born" with a shell. In the first days after hatching the shell can be softer, because their bones are not calcified all the way yet. Once fully grown, turtles and tortoises have hard, protective shells that are made up of 59 to 61 bones covered by plates called scutes. The scutes are made of keratin, the primary substance in hair, nails and hooves of other animals, but the turtles shell is part of its skeleton. And like bones, it grows with them while they age.
A terrapin has a shell because it is a turtle, of course. There are 4kinds of turtles: aquatic turtles, land turtles, terrapins, and sea turtles. All turtles have shells.
turtles die because they are hunted for their shells. also what many people don't know is that the spine of a turtle and the ribs are part of their shell. so when you remove the shell you remove part of the turtle important bones. though this is a very large reason for the deteriorating amount of live turtles in the world, turtles CAN NOT die of old age but die of injury and infecitons/diseases.
