It depends. If you're a teenaged girl, around 2000 to 2200; if you're a teenaged guy, at least 2500. If you're an adult woman, around 1800; if you're an adult man, 2000 to 2500.

It also varies on your height, muscle mass, and level of activity. If you're shorter than average, a little less. If you're taller than average, a little more. If you have a lot of muscle, you can eat more too. And of course, the more you exercise, the more you can eat.

The exact answer depends on age, gender, current weight, activity levels and whether you are trying to gain, lose or maintain weight. For most people 2000-2500 cal per day is in the right ball park. About 12-15 cal per pound is another good estimate.
