And just to clarify somenthing: Its not called a "dry ounce". Volume is "fl. oz." weight is simply "oz". A lot people get this whole ounce thing confused. Every ingredient has a different density, therefore a cup of something will not always weigh the same. A cup of lead pellets and a cup of feathers both occupy 8 fl. oz. of volume. However, the pellets will weigh a lot more than the feathers, and neither one will weigh 8 ounces on a scale.
It is very unfortunate that the people who invented the English system gave the same unit name (ounces) to both volume and weight. They are not interchangable.
A lot of people also confused about the term "dry measure". A dry measure is a measuring cup that is flat on top so that it can be leveled. A liquid measure is a measuring cup that has a spout on it. Both a 1 cup dry measure and 1 cup liquid measure have exactly the same volume: 8 fl. oz.
