Can greek orthodox marry Coptic orthodox if so what is involved?

Since 1981 theologians from the Coptic and Orthodox churches have been meeting to resolve differences, and have concluded that many of the differences are caused by the two groups using different terminology to describe the same thing. In the summer of 2001, the Coptic Orthodox and Greek Orthodox Patriarchates of Alexandria agreed to recognize the sacrament of marriage (and baptisms) of one another.

What do Coptic Christians believe?

A Coptic Christian is a person who belongs to the Coptic Orthodox Church. Coptic means Egyptian in the Coptic language (Evolved language from the Ancient Egytpian language). However since the Islamic/Arab conquest of Egypt, it refers to Christians, namely the Eastern 'Oriental' Orthodox sect. The Coptic Orthodox church was founded by St.Mark and belongs to the Eastern 'Oriental' Orthodox church, not the Eastern Orthodox, because of a schism, heresy or misunderstanding between definitons on the nature of Christ. The Coptic Orthodox church is headed by the Pope and Patriarch of all Alexandria, Pope Shenouda the Third. Note the word Pope was used by the Coptic church before the Catholic Pope asserted primacy, hence the title of Bishop of Rome. However it is not used in the same way as the Roman Catholics do, which means authority, but as the word 'father' in latin, while Patriarch is 'father' in Greek. If you know nothing about Coptic Christians you may know that the Nicene Creed was written by one of its fathers. Rosary beads and Monastacism originated from one of its saints and most of the martyrs in Christianity were Coptic just to give an idea to other sects that may not be familiar.

What are the main differences between Coptic Orthodox and Baptist?

Many.Ill explain the history of the church briefly. There was one church called "The Catholic Orthodox Church".It consisted of the Roman church ( found by st.peter),the Greek church (founded by st.andrew),The Coptic church (founded by st.mark),The church of Antioch (not sure founded by who) and The church of Jeruslem (not sure founded by who). It split into Catholic and Orthodox.Catholic "west" and Orthodox "east'.However the Coptic church belongs to the Eastern "Oriental' Orthodox church while the Greek church belongs to the Eastern Orthodox church, they are the same but have a different view on the divinty of christ. The Coptic church believes christ has two natures but united while the Greek church beleives christ has two natures but seperate. After that The western church - the Catholic church had many splits these churches are called Protestant churches which consists of anglicans, baptists and so on. The differences are many, too long to list

What are the Egyptian Coptic Church's relations with Roman Catholic Church?

Yes. The Coptic Catholic Church broke away with the Coptic Orthodox Church to come into full communion with the Catholic Church. This occurred around 1741 under the direction of a Coptic bishop named Amba Athanasius. Athanasius converted to Catholicism with about 2,000 Coptics. Although Althanasius converted back to the Coptic Orthodox Church, most of the people remained and grew into what is now the Coptic Catholic Church. It's important to note that the Coptic Catholic Church is not an independent Church, but a rite under the Catholic Church. The differences between rites are purely cultural, NOT doctrinal. So even though different rites in the Catholic Church may celebrate mass a little differently, they all believe in the same teachings of the Catholic Church and remain loyal to the Pope.

Is the Coptic church the true church of Jesus?

The Coptic Church was an early breakaway from the main 'Catholic-Orthodox' Church of the time, as were the Nestorian and Jacobite Churches. Whereas the Nestorian and Jacobite Churches have almost ceased to exist, the Coptic Church still retains as members around ten percent of the Egyptian population. However, survival does not provide evidence of being the true Church, or otherwise. There were many early Christian communities and, although the 'Catholic-Orthodox' Church did become overwhelmingly dominant in the fourth century, we can not really know which was the first Christian group.

What churches do infant baptism?

The Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Coptic Orthodox, and Oriental Orthodox Churches practice infant baptism, as do Anglicans, some Presbyterians and Lutherans, and various other Protestant denominations, including many 'non-denominational' churches.
