The islands that make up the Greater Antilles are Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola (Haiti and Dominican Republic), and Puerto Rico. Overall there are four islands.
The Greater Antilles include Cuba, Hispaniola which is comprised of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. Those are the four largest islands in the northwestern section of the Caribbean Sea.
West Indies are the islands in the Caribbean.
Traditionally, there have been three groupings in the West Indies: The Greater Antilles, the Windward Islands, and the Leeward Islands. The Greater Antilles are the four largest islands of Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico. Hispaniola is divided between the nations of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The much smaller Windward and Leeward islands all lie south and east of the Greater Antilles, an archipelago extending like links in a chain from the several Virgin Islands in the north down to Grenada. Various islands in this group have been sometimes been called Windward Islands, and other times defined as Leeward Islands, so the distinction is not always significant. Some of the islands in this archipelago include Barbados, Martinique, Antigua, St. Kitts-Nevis, Guadeloupe, St. Lucia, Dominica, and St Vincent, among others. The Dutch islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao, along with the nation of Trinidad and Tobago, are all very close to the coast of South America, and frequently regarded more as parts of that continent than as parts of the West Indies. Many of these classifications are imprecise, affected as much by political and cultural factors as by geography.
Well there are MANY more than three but here are a few: * Canary Islands * Falkland Islands * Madeira IslandsHispanola (contains nations of Haiti and Dominican Republic), Cuba, and Aruba are 3 islands located in the Atlantic Ocean.Of course, there are other islands. They are generally divided into big islands called the Greater Antilles and little islands called the Lesser Antilles.
There are hundred of named and unnamed islands in the Caribbean Sea, ranging from the larger islands that border it (Hispaniola, Cuba, Puerto Rico) to the central islands (Jamaica and the Caymans) to the innumerable cays and reefs of the Antilles. (A list of inhabited islands, and their affiliation, is at the related link)
The greater Antilles (Cuba, Hispanola, Jamaica and Puerto Rico) and the lesser Antilles ( everything else in the Carribean)
The Caribbean is located near the American continents, southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and Northern America, east of Central America and north of South America. Is a group of many islands divided in two groups (Greater Antilles and Lesser Antilles). The biggest island in the Caribbean is Cuba.
