When it comes to pasta sauce, there are as many recipes as cooks, and they all use this basic ingredient. Certainly there are those brave souls who actually start with the fresh tomatoes. 28 oz of canned tomatoes is equivalent to about two pounds of regular tomatoes. The number of tomatoes really depends on the size/type etc... but two pounds of regular tomatoes will give you the 28 oz you need in recipes.
