Most cars, regardless of make, they recommend you change the oil every 5,000 miles for "light usage", every 3,000 miles for "heavy usage". But, the way they define "heavy usage", there are very few cars that don't qualify. So, 3,000 miles is a good bet. You could probably still get away with 5,000 or even 6,000 miles. BUT if anything ever goes wrong with the engine while the car is still "under warrantee", they're going to blame the engine trouble on your failure to change the oil in a timely manner and invalidate your warrantee. I've heard that synthetic oils can extend the miles between oil changes, to 5,000 or 6,000, even with heavy usage. But again, the issue is whether it will invalidate your warrantee. To be safe, every 3,000 miles. But here's the thing. It's not just 3,000 miles, it's 3,000 mile OR 3 months, whichever comes first. For most cars, the 3,000 miles comes before the 3 months. But if you don't drive much, the 3 months could come first. So, after 3 months, whether you've driven 3,000 miles or not, get the oil changed.
