Two things can greatly affect the mileage you get from your car. The first is whether it has automatic or manual transmission. On average you'll get about 3 more miles to the gallon with a manual transmission. The second thing that can affect the mileage is the nature of the area you drive in, meaning if it's flat or mountainous. You should get better mileage in a flat area since driving up hill will cause the engine to consume more gas. Another important factor that you probably know already is whether you're driving in city (stop and go) or on hiway. The difference between the two can be as much as 3 miles a gallon or even more. Anyway, an automatic civic should give you at least 28 miles a gallon/city, and 31 or a little more for hiway driving. With manual you should get more. The way you drive will also affect the mileage.Stepping hard on the accelerator when you first go or driving at higher speed will also decrease the mileage.
