There are no mistakes in the Bible, since the omnipotent God who Created all things gave His Holy Word through His prophets, moving them to write by His holy Spirit. Peter said: "No prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." 2Peter 1:20,21.
What some may not realize is that probably every challenge that might be brought, as appearing as a mistake, has been answered by good Bible scholars. Controversy exists, yet good scholarship should prevail in examining any such claims.
God said that He would preserve His Holy Word: "The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever." Psalm 12:6,7. Jesus Christ, God's Son, said: "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." Matthew 5:18. Also, He said: "Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away." Luke 21:33.
Psalm 119:89 says: "Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven."
We have today approximately 6000 Byzantine Greek Manuscripts, which were carefully copied and match very well to the Textus Receptus Manuscript. These and other comparative sources were used to translate the King James Version New Testament, the Hebrew Masoretic Text being used for the Old Testament. This Hebrew Text went through unique accuracy procedures, guaranteeing the validity of the original wittings. We still have this text today.
The same God, who gave the Scriptures, promises to keep them and has the power to do so.
One mistake can be found in Matthew 27:9. "Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
This saying is not found in Jeremiah but in Zechariah.
11:12 And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver...
In Matthew 27:9, it says: "Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver..." First, it says that Jeremy, the prophet said it, not necessarily in the book of Jeremiah, which we have today. He obviously wrote other matters, as attested in the book of Jeremiah.
Secondly, in the Gospels, by virtue of their greatness, only such as Moses, David, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Daniel are mentioned. The way Scripture was referenced is different than our society does today. Jeremiah was considered the head of the body of prophets, and quotes came as a collective reference, such as from the Psalms, which had different authors. Note in Luke 24:44, where collectively Christ mentions groups of books: "These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the Law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the Psalms, concerning me."
Note also that Christ had said of the Old Testament Hebrew: "Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the Law, till all be fulfilled." Matthew 5:18. While He maintained that nothing would be lost or changed ultimately, He also refereed to the entire Old Testament as "the Law." While some modern versions have obvious changes made, we still have the preserved Hebrew and Greek Manuscripts, which provide us the Word of God.
