The actual amount of myths and legends with vampires being a predominant figure is unknown. Most vampire legends seem to originate from medieval times, but have also been shown to exist in different forms from many different cultures from many different time periods, such as Africa, China, Asia, America, and Britain. Some of these myths have transcended time and are quite well known today, such as Puerto Rican and Mexican vampire referred to as the "Chupacabra" or "goat-sucker", which feeds primarily on the blood of goats (as known by its name).
To answer the question simply, the number is unknown as many have been lost in time, with many still being created today.
