According to the LA times, 16141 deaths from texting and driving happened between 2002 and 2007. That's about 269 deaths per month during that time. It's important to note that death rates have been increasing since then and are considerably higher now. 2800 people were killed by the 9-11 terrorist attacks. For comparison, we lose over 3200 people per year from texting and driving.
