This is a very difficult question to answer, simply because there are several breeds and crossbreeds which can fall into the category of Staffordshire bull terriers and this can create confusion. For example Pitt Bull terriers, American Staffordshire bull terriers and English Staffordshire bull terriers are three separate breeds, but would generally not be distinguished in reports if a dog has killed a human. Then there are also many crossbreeds who would also be classified as a Staffordshire bull terrier, but would not be a pure-bred one. Therefore, it is almost impossible to say how many people Staffordshire bull terriers have killed, but the number would be smaller than most people assume.

Statistically, the highest number of Dog bites in the UK come from Dachshund's (popularly known as sausage dogs). The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is often a victim of the media and is often stereotyped as ''vicious'' and ''aggressive''. However, according to statistics from the American Temperament Test Society, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier has the BEST TEMPERAMENT OF ANY BREED OF DOG, with a passing rate of 93.2%. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is one of only two breeds (from 190 recognised by the Kennel Club) to have a mention of its suitability with children in it's Breed Standard. It is also the ONLY breed to be described as ''Totally Reliable'' in it's Breed Standard. Because of their fondness for people, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier has proved ''temperamentally ill-suited for guard or attack dog training''. It is also widely agreed among Dog owners and trainers that ''No Breed Is More Loving With It's Family'' than a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I do not know how many people have been ''bitten'' by this breed, but more people are bitten by Beagles, Dachshunds, English Springer Spaniels, Jack Russell Terriers, Chihuahuas, Border Collies and Cocker Spaniels (info from Dog Bite Claims), so it is wrong to victimise Staffies because of what you hear in the media. The fact is that Staffies are portrayed badly in the media due to their physical appearance and appeal to young men (who often mistreat their Dogs and use them as ''status'' symbols).

Here is a quote from a site that helps people choose which breed is right for them: ''Much has been said about the Staffy's temperament. They have been hounded by breed ban enthusiasts across the world. This could be down to misconceptions of Staffiesas being aggressive toward humans. Staffies make excellent family pets, are great with small children and protective of their family. They are especially good all round dogs; loving family dogs and reliable guard dogs. Don't overlook the Staffordshire Bull Terrier when you choose a dog breed!''
