How many quarts of oil are needed after new filter for a 2002 Chevy Silverado 4.8L?

I don't know about quarts, but it takes 5.8 Canadian Litres.

if you don't have a manual to tell you exactly how much, a good plan of attack is to add 4 qts. and then check the level with your dip stick. if the oil doesn't even touch the dip stick, then add a 5th qt and check again. if the 4.8 truly takes 6 qts. then at this point your dip stick should indicate that you are 1 qt. low (the oil will be just touching the lower hole or hash mark on the dip stick). add the 6th if necessary. be sure not to over-fill your engine.
