The owner's manual says 2.1 qts, but I recently drained and refilled (my '97) and it took a little more than that, I'd say about 2.5 qts. The dip stick is difficult to read (always check with motor warm and running) since it goes so far down and gets covered with fluid going in and out of the tube.
Your 1992 Toyota transmission will hold 12 quarts of transmission fluid, when it is empty. You can check the transmission fluid level with the dipstick.
add until full and stop at the full mark when warm.

If the brakes on a 2003 Toyota 4Runner are locking up there is a problem with the calipers. The units should be inspected for wear, to avoid any serious injury.
