God told Abraham to take Isaac to the region of Moriah to offer him as a sacrifice.
He took his son to the mountain because God told him to. It was a test to see if Abraham would obey God. Once there, God told Abraham to kill Isaac. As Abraham was about to kill Isaac, God said "Stop, you have proven yourself to me"!
The ethics within the binding of Isaac falls into theological voluntarism. This means that we are to take whatever is endorsed by god to be good such as when god asks Cain and Abel for tribute and the sacrifice of livestock. So when god wishes Abraham to kill his son Isaac, Abraham is all too willing to go ahead with the sacrifice without question.
It was not an angel for it was God himself who stopped Abraham from sacrificing his son. Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, whom you love-Isaac-and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you." Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. He said to his servants, "Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you." Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, "Father?" "Yes, my son?" Abraham replied. "The fire and wood are here," Isaac said, "but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?" Abraham answered, "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." And the two of them went on together. When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied. "Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son." Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided."Genesis 22:1-13
It was upon Mount Moriah where Abraham was told to offer Isaac: "Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you"
Genesis 22:1-2 (King James Version) "And it came to pass after these things, that God did attempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of." It does not say in the Bible which mountain Abraham took his son, Isaac, to, but I my guess is that it was a small mountain that did not have a name.
Isaac. Genesis 22:1-2 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
In this verse Abraham tells his servant to go and get a wife for Isaac:Gen 24:4 but you shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac."This verse tell where the servants goes to:Gen 24:10 Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and departed, for all his master's goods were in his hand. And he arose and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor.
God did not ask anyone to kill His Son, but He asked His Son to die for the sin of the world. Jesus (God's Son) said, "The reason my Father [God] loves me is that I lay down my life-only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father" (John 10:17-18). So even though God used humans to kill Jesus, God Himself was the One Who sacrificed His only Son (and then rose him from the dead) because He loved the world. John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." God loves you and that He has a wonderful plan for your life. God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac. Abraham bound Isaac and was going to kill him, but an angel intervened and Isaac was not killed. God did this so Abraham could better understand how much love God has by giving his only begotten son to be cruelly killed to save mankind.
Gen:22:2: And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. Gen:22:14 :And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."...'I AM the God of your ancestors - the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' ..." (Ex.3:6 NLT New Living Translation)"...'...I tell you this, that many Gentiles will come from all over the world and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the feast in the Kingdom of heaven...' " (Matt.8:11 NLT)."'And there will be great weeping and gnashing of teeth, for you will see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets within the Kingdom of God, but you will be thrown out. Then people will come from all over the world to take their places in the Kingdom of God.'" (Luke 13:28-29 NLT)"For it is the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob, the God of all our ancestors who has brought Glory to His servant Jesus by doing this. This is the same Jesus whom you handed over and rejected before Pilate, despite Pilate's decision to release Him. You rejected this Holy, Righteous One and instead demanded the release of a murderer. YOU KILLED THE AUTHOR OF LIFE, but God raised Him to Life, And we are witnesses of this fact!" (Acts 3:13-15 NLT)
