The number of ARVN (Army of the Republic of Vietnam) wounded in the Vietnam War was 1,169,763.

The number of NVA/VC (North Vietnamese Army/Viet Cong) wounded in the Vietnam War was 600,000 according to information provided by North Vietnam in a press release to Agence France Presse (AFP) on April 3, 1995.

The safest figure to use is over 300,000 men wounded. Because sometimes men killed in action (killed in battle) are referred to as "fatally wounded." Since over 58,000 US servicemen were killed in the Viet War, those 58,000 men "might" or "could be" included in the 300,000 wounded figure. Of those wounded, approximately 175,000 required hospitalization.

Statistics (data/figures) can be tricky and much caution is needed in deciphering them. Data can be turned around to support an individual or special interest groups meaning.

Example: Say 6 US battleships were sunk at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. That infers that 6 US Navy battleships were destroyed at Pearl Harbor, because traditionally when a warship is sunk in battle, it's destroyed (gone forever on the bottom of the sea). Therefore, a data expert could document 6 USN battlewagons destroyed in WWII. That would be INCORRECT because only 3 were actually lost forever (destroyed), the battleships USS Arizona, USS Oklahoma, and USS Utah are still on the bottom of the sea (includes the harbor). But the USS Utah had been reclassified as a training ship (aerial target vessel). Her tubes (rifles/cannons) were missing, but her armor and turrets were still part of the ship. Is she still classified as a battleship? Not at the time, but technically all she needed was to have her gun tubes reinstalled and she would have been back to being a battlewagon. Regardless, not all the battleships were destroyed at Pearl Harbor, sunk maybe but not destroyed. It depends on how the "writer" writes up the story.

304,704 WIA, 153,329 required hospitalization...the first person to respond to this question stated 600,000. THAT is the TOTAL of ALL wounded, not just the U.S. total that is asked .

Also, please be aware that not all military are "soldiers". There are Seamen, Airmen, Corpsmen (Marines) Guardsmen (US Coast Guard) and, of course Army Soldiers.
