It's supposed to take between 8 and 12 weeks. However, my experience of surface mail is not good. Posted six parcels all around the same time. Two got sent airmail, one arrived after 11 weeks and three never arrived at all. Having looked on the internet it seems to me that parcels regularly going missing when sent surface mail. Recommend you take the insurance out or spend the extra on sending it airmail.
Surface mail is overseas mail that goes by ship rather than by air. Parcel mail is for parcels.

A little over two weeks depending on the place in Australia.
I received a package from Tokyo in less than a week. However, I assume standard mail would take a couple weeks just because the mail system sucks. I recommend using a parcel service.
