According to the Humanitarian Services program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church), the church has provided access to clean water for over 4,500 communities around the world since 2002. Clean water sources include wells, water storage systems, or water purificiation systems - whichever would be most effective in the community. In 2008 alone, clean water projects were completed in 26 countries in Africa, the Middle East, South East Asia, and the Pacific Islands.
The Church does not publically announce much about of it's humanitarian efforts because they don't want people to think they are boasting. Therefore, they have never specified exactly how many wells were built in a specific area.

The early Mormon Pioneers were mostly disliked in the Midwest just because of their numbers. There were so many of them that the politics and culture in their area were significantly influenced by them. This angered people who lived there before the Mormons arrived, as they felt the Mormons were 'taking over' their community.
Many people remember Mormons for the pioneer trek in the mid-1800's. This has caused some misconceptions of people thinking that Mormons are similar to the Amish, but modern Mormons do not dress like pioneers or travel in horse-drawn wagons.
