First of all, marines are in the Marine Corps and Soldiers are in the Army. But to answer the question, it depended on many factors, the most important of which is ther terms of the individual enlistment contract. Draftees could anticipate at least two years in uniform, while enlistees would normally serve a 3 to 4 year term.
A more important factor is where someone served. Almost all the combat troops in the Marines served in the Pacific Theater, while most soldiers served in Europe.
All of them - soldier is a term exclusive to the Army, as opposed to Marines, sailors, and Airmen.
If You Mean Years By Age, Then 18.

all marines
"No, they aren't! If you think they are, you're crazy! 'Cause they're cool and they defend us well!" The above was posted by another user. To answer your question: The idea that an entire group of people can be descriped in one word is nothing more than stereotyping. It's like saying "all college football players are dumb" or "white men can't jump." There are plenty of stereotypes out there, and this is nothing more than one of them. Are marines different? Sure. They go through a rigorous trainign program just to earn the right to be called Marines. This naturally gives some of them a feeling of elitism, but the fact is that most Marines are just proud to be Marines, and are happy to have the opportunity to serve their country. I was in the Marines on active duty for 4 years. One of my best friends was a soldier, and the other an airman. I don't look at them as though they are lesser people because they weren't Marines, and most Marines don't either. The people who say that Marines are jerks really haven't met very many Marines. If they did, they would have different attitudes.
Wilson never served in the Marines, or any other branch of the US military.
