The Israelites could have travelled through the narrow strip of land between Suez and the Mediterranean Sea, where the Suez Canal now is, and then into the North Sinai. However, it must be remembered that at the time attributed to the Exodus, Egypt occupied the entire land between Egypt and Syria, and east to the Jordan River and beyond, and that the Mediterranean coast was heavily fortified. It would have been impossible to use this route unnoticed.

What is the significance of Moses leads the enslaved Israelites out of Egypt?

The significance of the exodus out of Egypt was to show the Israelites the power of their God, the God of Israel. Up until this point some of the Israelites were being influenced by the Egyptian ways and their so called gods. After many years of enslavement and praying to God for their freedom, the God of Israel has groomed Moses and is showing his power to Israel and also to their oppressors, the Egyptians. Moreover, Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt also points to the cross, in that through Christ sacrifice we are being led out our enslaved sin life to a life of salvation.

How important was Moses to the Israelites?

The Israelites had been oppressed by the Egyptians for over 400 years. When God sent 10 plagues over Egypt, pharaoh let the Israelites go.......but not for long. He quickly changed his mind and pursued them. The Israelites were scared and asked, "Were there not enough graves in Egypt that the Lord will let us die in the desert?" Moses replied, "Stand firm and you will see the deliverance of the Lord today." Moses then parted the Red Sea and the Israelites went through on try ground. When Pharaoh's army tried to cross, God closed the waters and Pharaohs whole army drowned. They were able to see the deliverance of the Lord.......thats why it's such a big event.
