shocks are usually pretty inexpensive. Just purchased two rear shocks for a 1994 S-10, usually they're about $30-35 and were on sale for $17 each.

Manuals often cite that the shocks shouldn't exceed about 57 pounds. However, if the shocks have been replaced, the new shocks may have different specs, so if possible, check what specific shocks you have.
Depending on your vehicle, how much of the work you do yourself, and the type of shocks and struts you buy, it can cost about 250 to about 800 dollars. This price also varies depending on the area where you live.
An easy way to tell when your shocks are worn out is to push down on the car to make it bounce. It should stop and come to rest after about two motions. If it continues much past that, you likely need new shocks.
Rear shocks cost anywhere from $55 to $85 each. There is also the labor charge to install them.
I paid $900 for shocks/struts and bushings. I was told that was the "brother in law" discount.
Shocks are just that, shocks. There is already a suspension system in place and you add shocks to it. The shocks can be replaced easily.Struts have part of the suspension andthe shocks included in one assembly. The struts have to be disassembled for access to the shocks.
shocks/struts have nothing to do with how high the car rides.... you have bad springs, or too much junk in the trunk...
