A tabby cat is usually not a purebred cat, so could be free, or, very little money.

If you get a cat from an animal shelter or rescue agency, they will charge you a lot more, since they had the veterinarian examine the cat, and had to take care of it so they had costs to cover, but it would still be less money than getting a purebred cat. They would likely require you to get the cat neutered or spayed, and then they would give you some money back.

A Black cat is usually a solid colour, and is impossible (unless in the right light) to see any stripes that may be present. The term "Tabby" is a name for a certain coat pattern, usually dark stripes or swirls on a lighter background colour. A solid black cat can not have even darker patterns on it; the closest you would get is a very dark brown cat with even darker patterns.

Because the Tabby pattern is incredibly common and found on most breeds, it is unlikely you would have to pay very much for one.

At adoption centers like petsmart, you can get an orange tabby for around $50, but at a regular pet store, they could cost more.
